Find your key

Draft — have a lawyer read this before you rely on it.

Both the order number and the email address you bought with. An order number on its own travels in confirmation emails and in browser history, and on its own it is not enough to collect somebody else's licence.

Read this before you press the button: the key is shown here, on this screen. If you are sharing your screen, or somebody is sitting next to you, or this is not your own Mac, stop and email CONTACT-ADDRESS instead. It can be sent to the address the order was placed with.

If it does not find it

The answer is the same whether the order number is wrong, the address is wrong, or both. That is deliberate — a page that told you which half was right would be a way of finding out which orders exist — and it does mean the page cannot tell you which one to correct. Both are on the receipt the payment provider sent you: the number is printed on it, and the address is the one it arrived at.

If both are right and it still says no, that is ours to fix rather than yours. Email CONTACT-ADDRESS from the address you bought with, quote the order number, and the key will be sent to you. This page is not the only way to get it.

What this page sends

One request, to api.weirapp.com, carrying the order number and the address and nothing else. No cookies, no analytics, no third-party scripts — the same as the rest of this site.

Those two values currently travel in the address of that request rather than in the body of it, which means they can be written into server logs along the way. It works, and it is not how it should stay: a lookup like this belongs in a POST body. What the page can do about it, it does — if a link filled the boxes for you, the address bar is rewritten straight afterwards so the order number and your email are not left sitting in your browser history.

The key comes back to your browser, and this page does not save it anywhere.

What to do with it

Open Weir, go to Settings, and paste the key into the Licence box. It is checked on your own machine and keeps working offline afterwards, so it is worth keeping the email in case you ever rebuild the Mac.
